Stocks recovered, with the Dow leading

U.S. stocks finished Wednesday, September 2, 2026 higher across the three headline benchmarks. The S&P 500 added 35.13 points, or 0.46%, to 7,666.60. The Nasdaq-100 rose 66.13 points, or 0.23%, to 29,143.33, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained about 295 points, or 0.56%, to 53,062. The Dow’s larger percentage advance than the technology-heavy Nasdaq-100 points to a session in which the rebound was not led solely by large technology shares.

September 2, 2026 regular-session close

Volatility eased while benchmark yields held steady

The Cboe VIX closed at 15.20, down 1.14 points, or 6.98%, from 16.34 on September 1. The U.S. Treasury’s daily par-yield curve placed the 2-year yield at 4.39% and the 10-year yield at 4.79%. Both were unchanged from the previous market day at the displayed two-decimal precision. A lower VIX alongside higher stock indexes signals less index-level demand for near-term protection at the close, but it does not describe the option volatility of an individual company.

Wheel lens

The VIX is an S&P 500 volatility benchmark, not an executable option quote for ASTS or CRDO. Any educational wheel review still needs the exact expiry and strike, bid and ask, open interest, event calendar, full cash or share obligation, and assignment tolerance.

AST SpaceMobile surged as Credo retreated

Two names on YieldCove’s current watchlist moved sharply in opposite directions. AST SpaceMobile (ASTS) closed at $62.40, up $6.60, or 11.83%, from $55.80. Credo Technology (CRDO) ended at $165.22, down $41.41, or 20.04%, from $206.63. Cboe’s delayed regular-session quotes and Nasdaq’s stock screener matched on both closes and dollar changes. Those feeds establish the size of the moves; closing prices alone do not establish a company-specific cause.

Two wheel-relevant watchlist closes

Double-digit moves can change option moneyness and assignment exposure quickly. After a rally, a covered-call strike can move closer to the stock price, while a cash-secured put may gain more distance from the market. After a drop, a put strike can move much closer to assignment and a covered call may sit farther out of the money. None of those relationships reveals the next session’s executable premium: the stock’s opening price, contract spread, implied volatility, skew and liquidity can all change before trading resumes.

Option premiums are quoted per share, and one standard contract normally represents 100 shares. That makes the full cash-reserve or share-delivery obligation more important than the percentage move by itself. For readers tracking existing wheel positions, the verified September 2 close is a dated reference point—not an order instruction—and any contract should be rebuilt from a live broker quote when the market is open.

What the close establishes

The broad benchmarks rose, the VIX retreated, Treasury yields were unchanged at displayed precision, and ASTS and CRDO diverged sharply. These are verified closing facts, not a forecast, a preferred strike or a personalized recommendation.
