The August 24 Morning Read covers the wider market backdrop. These delayed pre-market quotes were requested between 05:47 and 05:50 ET on August 24, 2026 and checked against independent Nasdaq and TradingView snapshots; thin early trading can change quickly.

Dilution hits AAOI while chip risk comes off

AAOI was down 12.23% at $109.56 after filing a $600 million at-the-market stock-sale program. MRVL fell 3.26% to $229.31 and MU slipped 3.08% to $937.00 as investors approached NVIDIA’s Wednesday results with less risk.

AAOI: -12.23% as a $600 million stock-sale program lands

Applied Optoelectronics entered an equity distribution agreement on August 21 that allows it to sell up to $600 million of common stock over time. The filing describes an at-the-market program, not a completed $600 million sale: AAOI has no obligation to issue shares and can suspend sales. That distinction matters, but the potential dilution is large enough to reset the price after Friday’s close.

AAOI wheel context: volatility is not the same as liquidity

The delayed Cboe file showed 1,742 option series, 276,485 contracts of open interest and 27,431 contracts of prior-session volume. Options do not trade pre-market, and a 12% stock gap can widen live spreads sharply; rebuild strike-level bids, asks and implied volatility after the open.

  • Why it matters: new shares can spread future earnings across a larger share count, even if the cash finances growth.
  • Objective range: the early Nasdaq tape ran from $107.30 to $110.78, leaving the $124.82 prior close as the main overhead reference.
  • Peer check: AXTI and COHR were also lower, but neither had the same new dilution filing.
  • Main risk to the bearish reaction: AAOI may sell fewer shares than the authorization permits, or deploy proceeds into high-return capacity.

MRVL and MU: one sector event, two different exposures

Marvell and Micron moved lower together before a dated sector event. NVIDIA plans to post fiscal Q2 results at about 4:20 p.m. ET on Wednesday, August 26, followed by a 5:00 p.m. ET conference call. The synchronized pullback is consistent with investors trimming AI-hardware risk; it is not proof of a new company-specific problem at either Marvell or Micron.

MRVL wheel context: event risk comes first

Cboe’s delayed file contained 2,318 series, 1,483,852 contracts of open interest and 132,012 contracts of prior-session volume. Marvell is also listed on Thursday’s earnings calendar, so Wednesday’s NVIDIA read-through can be followed by another company-level binary event; live spread quality must be checked at the chosen strike.

MU wheel context: a deep chain still faces a binary catalyst

The delayed Cboe file showed 11,166 series, 3,063,288 contracts of open interest and 384,058 contracts of prior-session volume. Those totals indicate broad participation, not an assured tight spread at every strike; NVIDIA’s release can reprice the memory-and-AI complex before Thursday’s open.

  • Why MRVL matters: custom AI silicon and high-speed connectivity make it sensitive to data-centre spending signals.
  • Why MU matters: memory pricing and high-bandwidth-memory demand put it closer to the capacity and supply side of the AI build-out.
  • What separates them: a common sector catalyst can move both stocks, but their revenue drivers, valuation and option surfaces are not interchangeable.
  • Main risk: positioning can reverse quickly if NVIDIA’s demand commentary differs from the assumptions embedded in Monday’s pullback.

Also on the radar

  • AXTI -5.09% at $67.14 near 05:43 ET: optical-material shares joined the pullback, but no separate current issuer catalyst cleared the feature bar.
  • COHR -5.00% at $275.05 near 05:43 ET: the photonics supplier moved with the optical/AI complex rather than a distinct Monday filing.
  • SNDK -4.62% at $1,522.30 near 05:43 ET: storage shares cooled after a powerful run; the move stayed radar-only without a new company announcement.

What to watch today

  • 09:30 ET — opening auction: compare regular-session volume with the delayed pre-market prints and AAOI’s $107.30-$110.78 early range.
  • After 09:35 ET — option chains: rebuild live spreads and strike-level open interest; the aggregate Cboe totals are not executable quotes.
  • Through Monday’s close: watch whether AAOI remains a dilution-specific story while MRVL, MU, AXTI, COHR and SNDK trade as one risk cluster.
  • Wednesday, 16:20 ET and 17:00 ET: NVIDIA’s written results and conference call become the next dated test for the AI-hardware group.
