$MRVL’s investor day looms as futures rise and oil eases

The 9 a.m. $MRVL event joins trade data and tonight’s $STZ results. Softer oil and slightly lower yields leave company event risk in focus.

What you need to know

• $MRVL starts its investor-day livestream at 9 a.m. ET; company guidance can matter more than index calm. • Futures are slightly higher while oil and Treasury yields ease; the moves remain small. • Trade data arrive at 8:30 a.m. ET, with $STZ results after the close; event risk spans the session.

Tuesday, October 6, around 4 a.m. ET. Futures and commodity quotes are delayed snapshots near 3:52 a.m. Treasury yields and $VIX are timestamped 4:02 a.m. Changes use each market’s prior reference; gold is December futures, not spot bullion.

$MRVL puts its AI plans on the morning clock

Marvell’s investor-day livestream begins at 9 a.m. ET, before the cash-market opening bell. Chairman and CEO Matt Murphy and the executive team plan to discuss strategy, growth opportunities, and the company’s role in AI and data-center infrastructure.

That gives the session a company-specific checkpoint alongside the broader market backdrop. The announced agenda does not establish new revenue targets or customer commitments. Those details, if released, will need to be read in the actual presentation rather than inferred from the event itself.

Global stocks carry Monday’s gains into Tuesday

December S&P 500 futures were 7,841.25, up 0.19%. Nasdaq 100 futures stood at 31,371.00, up 0.17%, while Dow futures gained 0.47% to 51,798. These changes compare with the prior futures reference, not Monday’s cash-index close.

The cash-session backdrop was stronger: Monday’s Nasdaq Composite rose 1.05% to 27,477.31, a record close. The S&P 500 gained 0.66% to 7,773.95. Reuters described technology strength carrying into Asia, even as elevated bond yields remained a constraint.

MarketLevel / moveWhen

Hang Seng24,234.64 / +0.81%15:47 Hong Kong; delayed, still intraday
STOXX Europe 600638.44 / +0.76%03:47 ET; delayed intraday
Japan has closed; Hong Kong and Europe are intraday snapshots.

Mainland Chinese markets remain shut for National Day through October 7, reopening October 8. Hong Kong is trading today. The positive readings therefore describe active regional markets rather than a fresh mainland-China session.

Lower oil helps, but the rates hurdle stays high

The US 10-year yield eased to 5.284%, down 2.7 basis points from its quote-feed reference. The 2-year was 4.818%, down 1.5 basis points. A basis point is one-hundredth of a percentage point: this was a modest retreat, with yields still elevated.

Monday’s ISM report explains why the inflation backdrop deserves attention. September services activity continued expanding, with the headline index at 54.9, versus 55.4 in August. Its prices index rose to 74.0, from 72.6, the highest since July 2022. Those survey readings are prior-session context, not new overnight data.

November WTI was $88.66 a barrel, down 0.861% from the prior settlement reference. Reuters’ overnight oil report weighed resilient Middle East exports against continuing regional tensions. A lower futures price alone does not confirm an end to supply or shipping risks.

December gold futures were $4,165.00 an ounce, up 0.197% against their provider’s prior-close reference. The dollar index stood at 102.081, down 0.084%. Bitcoin was $85,600.26 at 4:02 a.m., with a provider-reported 0.685% decline over 24 hours; that comparison uses a different clock.

The trade report arrives before the stock-market open

August US international trade in goods and services is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. ET. The release adds detail on exports and imports before investors see the next quarterly growth estimate. Its components matter alongside the headline balance; a deficit alone does not measure the strength of domestic demand. Trading Economics lists a $102 billion deficit consensus, versus $88.6 billion previously. This is a provider-attributed estimate, not the released result.

The New York Fed’s supply-chain pressure update follows at 10 a.m. ET. Scheduled Fed appearances also need their topics kept in view: moderating a financial-culture panel is different from delivering an economic outlook. None is a new policy decision simply because it appears on today’s calendar.

Your watchlist

  • $MRVL: investor day at 9 a.m. ET; the published agenda covers strategy, growth, AI, and data centers.
  • $CDNS: announced Monday that its next results webcast is October 26; that is a later earnings date, not today’s report.
  • $ASTS: Monday’s TELUS integration test connected its wireless network with the satellite network for smartphone data, calls, and texts. A test milestone is different from a commercial rollout.

For wheel sellers

A $VIX reading of 15.47 summarizes broad index uncertainty; it does not measure every stock’s event premium. An investor day or earnings report can change an individual name’s risk sharply. The opening option quotes and the actual company disclosures matter when assessing cash-secured puts or covered calls.
