$PTC’s buyout lifts stocks as yields climb and services cool

$PTC’s buyout bid gave the rally a tangible story

Monday’s gains reached all four major U.S. stock benchmarks. The Nasdaq Composite led with a 1.05% rise, while the Dow gained 0.18%. The Nasdaq-100, a different index, added 0.87%; the scoreboard uses the Composite.

Schneider Electric agreed to buy Boston-based $PTC for $205 a share in cash. The announcement values its equity at $22.6 billion and its enterprise, including net debt, at $23.7 billion. $PTC closed at $192.26, up 33.49%. The gap to the offer reflects a deal that still needs to close.

A second large deal reshaped freight brokerage. C.H. Robinson ($CHRW) agreed to acquire $RXO for an implied $5.8 billion. The standard consideration is $17.25 cash plus 0.0856 $CHRW shares per $RXO share, initially worth $30.25. $RXO rose 22.54%, while $CHRW fell 10.85%; this is not an unconditional $30.25 cash payment.

Services cooled, but price pressure kept yields high

ISM’s September services PMI slipped from 55.4 to 54.9. A reading above 50 signals expansion. New orders remained at 59.8, and employment returned above 50 at 50.1. Growth slowed without turning into contraction.

The prices index rose from 72.6 to 74.0. That measures how broadly firms report higher input costs, not an inflation rate of 74%. The official Treasury 10-year par yield increased 3 basis points, or 0.03 percentage point, from Friday to 5.31%. That leaves a tougher financing backdrop alongside the equity rally.

Materials led while real estate lagged

Ten of the eleven Select Sector SPDR ETFs rose. Materials led, followed by communication services and energy. Real estate was the sole decliner. The returns show sector performance; they do not establish a single cause for every stock.

Delayed WTI futures were $89.30 a barrel, down 1.99%, at 16:59 ET. Gold futures were $4,167.60 an ounce, up 0.13%, at 17:00 ET. The Dollar Index was 102.12, up 0.19%, at 17:23 ET. These are time-stamped market snapshots; exchange settlements were not independently verified.
