What you need to know

  • $TSLA extends Austin robotaxi service to 11 p.m. local time. Longer availability is progress, but safety limits remain.
  • Oil and Treasury yields ease while VIX rises. The morning offers relief without a uniformly calmer risk backdrop.
  • Services surveys arrive at 9:45 and 10:00 a.m. ET. Activity and prices can reset rate expectations after Friday's jobs report.

US futures pause while Japan carries the rally

December S&P 500 futures stood at 7,767.50, down 0.13%. Nasdaq 100 futures were almost unchanged at 31,060.75, one point lower. Dow futures slipped 0.16% to 51,396. These delayed quotes were stamped 3:59 a.m. ET; they are a snapshot, not the cash opening price.

Friday's US session ended higher: the S&P 500 gained 0.73%, the Nasdaq Composite 1.19%, and the Dow 0.49%. Monday's subdued futures therefore follow a rebound, rather than a fresh broad selloff. Futures changes use each contract's prior reference, not Friday's cash index close.

VIX was 16.18 at 4:09 a.m. ET, up 0.87 points from Friday's 15.31 close. It measures option-implied S&P 500 volatility. Its rise alongside almost-flat Nasdaq futures is a useful reminder: index direction and the price of uncertainty can move differently.

Cheaper oil and lower yields offer some breathing room

The live Tradeweb snapshot at 4:06 a.m. ET put the 10-year Treasury yield at 5.256%, down 2.1 basis points. The 2-year was 4.787%, down 3.8 basis points. A basis point is 0.01 percentage point; both changes use the feed's previous closing yields.

November WTI futures were $89.70 a barrel, down 1.55%, at 3:55 a.m. ET. Reuters linked the retreat to rising Middle East crude exports and planned G7 stock releases. Sunday's OPEC release said a seven-country subgroup kept November required production at September levels. Unchanged quotas do not establish how much oil actually reaches buyers.

December gold futures rose 0.68% to $4,190.60 an ounce. The dollar index was 102.178, up 0.24%; both were delayed snapshots around 3:55 a.m. ET. Bitcoin was $86,340.12 at 4:05 a.m., 2.36% above Friday's 4 p.m. chart bar. That comparison is not a daily settlement return.

Services data can test the relief after a weak jobs report

Friday's official employment report is the starting point, not overnight news. Payrolls rose by 29,000 in September, unemployment was 4.2%, and July plus August were revised down by 60,000 jobs. That softer labor picture sets up today's check on activity elsewhere in the economy.

S&P Global's final September US services PMI is due at 9:45 a.m. ET. ISM's services survey follows at 10 a.m. PMI means purchasing managers' index: above 50 generally signals expansion. A softer activity reading and a hotter prices reading would send different messages about growth and inflation.

ActionForex's calendar forecasts 58.7 for the final S&P reading and 55.3 for ISM, against its prior ISM entry of 55.4. Other calendars differ, so these are provider estimates. The S&P timing is checked through secondary calendars; ISM confirms its own schedule. The Board's calendar lists no policymaker speech today; regional-bank coverage is incomplete.

Your watchlist: $TSLA adds an hour, with a clear limit

$TSLA — Tesla's official Robotaxi account announced Austin service until 11 p.m. local time after Friday's US close. Elon Musk confirmed the move from 10 p.m. and identified night-time pet detection as a remaining constraint. The change extends the operating window; it does not establish wider geography, a larger fleet, or new revenue figures.

This is an operational checkpoint, rather than a reason to invent an overnight stock move. No verified price reaction or fresh analyst change is quoted here. Earlier Friday delivery headlines fall outside this edition's news window. The checked calendars describe a quiet Monday for major earnings, but estimated dates conflict. No issuer-confirmed before- or after-close report was established for this brief, so no earnings name is promoted as today's event.

For wheel sellers

Higher index volatility can lift broad option premiums, but it does not measure the risk of a particular $TSLA contract. A cash-secured put still carries the obligation to buy shares at its strike if assigned, and falling shares can overwhelm the premium received. Today's services releases can change quotes quickly, so any educational comparison needs the actual contract, expiry, collateral and a fresh price.
