US stocks stay open through a bond holiday ahead of CPI

NYSE trades today despite the US bond holiday. Wednesday’s CPI and Tuesday’s bank results put event risk in focus for option sellers.

What you need to know

• NYSE trades normally today; SIFMA recommends a US bond holiday, creating a different cross-market backdrop. • December S&P futures edge up while Nasdaq-100 futures are nearly flat; these are delayed Monday observations. • Tuesday’s bank results and Wednesday’s CPI are upcoming event risks for options that span those releases.

Morning preview for Monday, October 12, 2026. The previous US regular session ended Friday, October 9. Futures and commodities below are Monday delayed Yahoo snapshots, accessed at 05:26–05:27 EDT; Friday yields and VIX remain dated background. This week’s October 12–16 calendar uses Toronto/Eastern daylight time (EDT, UTC−4).

Stocks trade while the bond calendar takes a holiday

Today is a regular 09:30–16:00 EDT equity session under the NYSE calendar. SIFMA recommends an October 12 holiday for covered US dollar fixed-income trading. That recommendation includes government and corporate debt; it does not close the equity market.

The Federal Reserve calendar also moves scheduled daily and weekly statistical releases from October 12 to October 13. Interpretation: holiday participation may complicate cross-market comparisons and available liquidity. Actual stock or option spreads have not been measured here.

Monday futures show small moves, with oil firmer

December S&P 500 futures stood at 7,871.25 points, +0.15%, at 05:16:12 EDT. December Nasdaq-100 futures were 31,098.50 points, −0.03%, at the same time. December Dow futures were 51,981 points, +0.11%, at 05:16:11 EDT.

November WTI was 92.51 USD per barrel, +0.72%, at 05:17:01 EDT. December COMEX gold was 4,200.20 USD per troy ounce, −0.38%, at 05:17:04 EDT. Each change compares with Friday’s daily close in the same provider chart; these are not verified exchange settlements.

In Europe, the EURO STOXX 50 was 6,197.40 points, +0.39%, at 05:12 EDT, versus Friday’s provider close. Japan’s cash market is closed for Sports Day on October 12; a Friday Nikkei level would not be Monday performance. These observations do not establish a cause for any move or predict the US open.

Inflation risk arrives later in the week

The BLS schedule places September CPI on Wednesday, October 14, at 08:30 EDT. September PPI follows Thursday, October 15, at 08:30 EDT; import and export prices follow Friday, October 16, at 08:30 EDT. These are scheduled releases, with no forecast or surprise assumed.

For context, the Treasury’s Friday, October 9, daily par rate was 5.24% for ten years, up 2 basis points from Thursday’s 5.22%. Cboe’s Friday VIX close was 14.84. Neither number is a live Monday reading.

Interpretation: positions lasting through Wednesday include an inflation event even if Monday’s index futures barely move. A broad volatility index also cannot establish an individual stock’s option premium or earnings risk.

Bank results begin Tuesday, before the opening bell

Issuer notices confirm the following upcoming schedule for JPMorganChase ($JPM), Goldman Sachs ($GS) and Citi ($C). Bank of America ($BAC) confirms its Wednesday call. These are previously announced dates rechecked today, not results already released.

$CTue Oct 13 · approximately 08:00Tue Oct 13 · 11:00
$BACRelease time not verifiedWed Oct 14 · 08:30
Issuer-confirmed earnings calendar · EDT

Interpretation: bank reports can change expectations for credit quality, loan demand and margins. $BAC’s call shares Wednesday’s 08:30 slot with CPI, so macro and issuer information may arrive together. No bank earnings consensus or option-implied move is asserted.

Your watchlist

$AEHR — dated calendar context: its October 8 issuer notice schedules results for November 2 after the close, with a 17:00 Eastern call (EST, UTC−5, on that date). This was already covered in Friday’s edition; it is not a new weekend catalyst. No material new watchlist issuer development after Friday’s close was verified in this bounded review.

For wheel sellers

A cash-secured put still carries the obligation to buy shares at the strike if assigned; a premium does not remove downside risk. Earnings and inflation can reprice a position across a gap, while a covered call limits upside. The YieldCove calculator helps separate reserved cash and breakeven from the headline premium.
