SoFi’s lending engine delivered a strong third quarter, and the stock jumped after management raised its outlook on October 27. But this is not a story of every business accelerating together: the technology platform’s revenue still shrank. For option sellers, the useful question is what the earnings release changed—and which risks remain after the initial rally.13

What happened: a 13% rally, with real profit growth

At 11:07:27 a.m. Eastern on October 27, Yahoo Finance’s market-data feed showed SOFI at US$16.38, compared with Monday’s $14.46 close. That is a $1.92 gain, or 13.28%, calculated from those prices. Cumulative session volume was 83,174,529 shares; the day’s range so far was $15.67–$16.55. This is a dated intraday snapshot, not a live quote or a prediction of the closing price. All dollar amounts below are U.S. dollars.3

For the quarter ended September 30, 2026, SoFi reported GAAP net revenue of $1.385 billion, up 44% from $961.6 million a year earlier. GAAP net income rose 73% to $241.0 million, while diluted earnings per share increased to $0.18 from $0.11. Adjusted net revenue was $1.371 billion and adjusted EBITDA reached $469.8 million, up 70%. Adjusted measures supplement, rather than replace, the accounting results.1

Management now forecasts approximately $5.04 billion of adjusted net revenue for 2026, versus July’s $4.75 billion–$4.85 billion range. That is a $240 million, or 5.0%, increase from the old midpoint. The latest outlook also calls for about $1.66 billion of adjusted EBITDA, $840 million of adjusted net income and $0.61 of adjusted EPS. Those are forecasts, not money already earned.12

The newly introduced 2027 outlook targets roughly $6.4 billion of adjusted net revenue, $2.24 billion of adjusted EBITDA and $0.90 of adjusted EPS. The revenue target implies about 27% growth from the new 2026 forecast. That creates a useful future benchmark, but delivery still depends on loan demand, funding, credit performance and execution.1

Why it happened: more loans, members and cheaper funding

The operational driver was lending. Total loan originations reached a record $16.9 billion, up 71% year over year. Personal-loan originations were $12.6 billion, up 69%, including $3.6 billion originated for third parties through the Loan Platform Business. Lending adjusted net revenue increased 68% to $807.4 million. These figures help explain why investors had more than a higher forecast to react to.1

Customer growth also mattered. SoFi added a record 1.2 million members, reaching 17.1 million, up 35% year over year. Total products reached 26.7 million, up 44%. Financial Services revenue increased 25% to $525.1 million. Deposits grew $5.8 billion during the quarter to $51.3 billion; the company says deposit funding cost 145 basis points less than warehouse financing on average. That funding advantage helps the lending model, rather than making credit risk disappear.1

The weak spot was Technology Platform revenue: $87.4 million, down 24% year over year, although up 3% sequentially. SoFi attributes the annual decline partly to a large client that had fully left the platform before the end of 2025. A strong consolidated quarter therefore does not establish that this business has recovered.1

Credit quality needs equally careful reading. The reported personal-loan annualized charge-off rate was 2.26%, down 34 basis points year over year, but it includes the effects of asset sales, new originations and delinquency sales. Excluding late-stage delinquent-loan sales and including recoveries, management estimates an all-in annualized net charge-off rate of about 3.4%. Those are different measures; the lower headline alone is not a complete loss-risk assessment.1

There was also a broader fintech bid. Yahoo showed Robinhood at $95.98, up 3.38%, at 11:07:10 a.m. Eastern, and lending-platform peer Upstart at $23.48, up 2.09%, at 11:06:09 a.m. SoFi’s larger move fits a company-specific earnings story within a stronger group; the peer gains do not prove that SoFi caused them.45

The wheel angle: a better report is not a free put premium

A wheel strategy links cash-secured puts with covered calls after share assignment. Current SOFI implied volatility and IV rank were not independently established here; the captured public options overview did not expose them. There is therefore no basis in this report to label today’s premiums rich or cheap, or to quote a reliable delta, probability of profit or expected move.8910

Implied volatility can decline once an earnings event passes, reducing an option’s value and helping a seller when other factors are unchanged. That does not guarantee a profit: a falling stock can overwhelm the benefit. Today’s release is now past, but this research does not establish SoFi’s next earnings date or an expiry that safely avoids it.189

For education only, a hypothetical $15 cash-secured put on a standard 100-share contract creates a $1,500 purchase obligation before premium and fees. Assignment means paying $15 per share even if the market falls much further. A hypothetical $18 covered call against 100 shares caps the share-sale price at $18 if assigned while leaving substantial downside. These are payoff examples, not verified available contracts, current premiums or suggested trades.89

What to watch next: October 28, then the next policy meeting

The Federal Reserve meets October 27–28, with October 28 the second day. On September 16 it raised the federal-funds target range by a quarter percentage point to 3.75%–4.00%. Borrowing costs and funding conditions matter for lenders, but tomorrow’s decision is unknown. The next scheduled Fed meeting is December 8–9. Both are dated macro checkpoints, not promises of a particular stock move.67

For SoFi, the next business test is whether the fourth quarter supports the raised full-year targets without weakening credit quality. Watch the technology platform’s recovery, deposit funding costs and loan-sale economics together—not just member growth. No next company earnings date is confirmed in this article. The central distinction is simple: stronger guidance improves the benchmark, not the certainty of meeting it.1
