Snapshot: 5 August 2026, 03:59–04:12 ET. U.S. equity futures were modestly higher: S&P 500 futures rose 0.35%, Nasdaq-100 futures 0.13%, and Dow futures 0.24%. AMD is the fresh company lead. Its SEC-filed Q2 release reported record revenue of $11.536 billion, up 50% year over year, with Data Center revenue of $6.7 billion, up 107%. The opening test is whether that momentum broadens across semiconductors.
Macro overnight
| Region | Index | Level | Read |
|---|---|---|---|
| Japan | Nikkei 225 | 66,300.44 | +3.66% |
| Hong Kong | Hang Seng | about 25,900 | -0.42% to +0.17% |
| China | Shanghai Composite | 3,878.43 | +1.47% |
| Euro area | Euro Stoxx 50 | about 6,499 | +0.19% |
| United Kingdom | FTSE 100 | about 10,913 | +0.32% to +0.50% |
| Germany | DAX | about 26,303 | +0.38% to +1.17% |
Japan supplied the strongest regional signal: the Nikkei 225 closed at 66,300.44, up 3.66% in both feeds. Shanghai rose 1.47%, while Hong Kong was roughly flat near 25,900 because the feeds referenced different comparison closes. Europe opened higher but calmer: the Euro Stoxx 50 added about 0.19%, and both the FTSE 100 and DAX were positive despite different session baselines.
Cross-assets added two useful checks. September WTI traded near $76.05, up roughly 0.33%–0.41%. December gold was about $4,230.50; the reported gain ranged from 1.88% to 3.30% because providers used different prior closes. The U.S. Dollar Index was nearly unchanged near 99.83. Cboe’s official delayed feed put VIX at 15.91, down about 3.58% from its 16.50 close. Official Treasury data for 4 August showed 4.20% at 2 years and 4.63% at 10 years, a positive 43-basis-point slope.
The verified U.S. agency calendar is lighter today. BLS lists no release for 5 August; its next entries are preliminary Q2 productivity at 08:30 ET on 6 August and the July employment report at 08:30 ET on 7 August. BEA lists no 5 August release, and the Federal Reserve Board’s August calendar showed no public Board event today. This limited check does not cover every private or regional appearance.
Your tickers
AMD: GAAP revenue was $11.536 billion; gross margin was 54%; operating income was $1.990 billion; net income was $2.297 billion; and diluted EPS was $1.38. Data Center represented 58% of company revenue. These are issuer-reported figures for the quarter ended 27 June 2026, not consensus comparisons or guarantees.
| Measure | Q2 2026 | Y/Y read |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | $11.536 billion | +50% |
| GAAP operating income | $1.990 billion | from -$134 million |
| Data Center revenue | $6.7 billion | +107% |
| Client and Gaming revenue | $3.8 billion | +6% |
| Embedded revenue | $977 million | +19% |
The mix matters as much as the headline. Client revenue was $3.1 billion, up 23%, while Gaming revenue was $779 million, down 31% as semi-custom revenue declined. Management expects Q3 revenue of about $13.0 billion, plus or minus $0.3 billion—a $12.7–$13.3 billion range—with midpoint growth of roughly 41% year over year and 13% sequentially. It expects non-GAAP gross margin near 56%. Guidance is forward-looking and can change; the durable test is whether Data Center growth converts into sustained margins and cash generation.
What AMD confirms—and what remains open
The filed quarter confirms a much larger Data Center business, positive GAAP operating leverage, and a higher Q3 revenue run-rate. It does not settle competitive share, export-control risk, customer concentration, supply execution, or the multiple investors will apply. Keep the operating evidence separate from any opening-price reaction.
ZETA: Its SEC-filed release reported Q2 revenue of $443 million, up 44%, GAAP net income of $8 million, free cash flow of $58 million, and a $33 million increase in the 2026 revenue-guidance midpoint to $1.818 billion. SPCX: Its filing reported revenue of $7.814 billion, up 92%, a net loss of $541 million, adjusted EBITDA of $3.538 billion, and capex of $18.369 billion. Cash conversion remains the central follow-up.
What to watch today
- 09:30 ET — breadth first: compare the modest 0.13% Nasdaq-100 futures gain with semiconductor breadth after AMD’s release; one issuer’s result is not a sector guarantee.
- AMD mix: watch discussion of the $6.7 billion Data Center segment, the $779 million Gaming segment, and the Q3 $12.7–$13.3 billion revenue range rather than an unsourced consensus headline.
- Rates and volatility: rebuild the read from the official 4.20% / 4.63% Treasury close and the 15.91 VIX snapshot after the cash market opens.
- Japan follow-through: test whether the Nikkei’s 3.66% advance carries into U.S.-listed technology breadth or remains a regional move.
- Next macro hand-off: today’s lighter verified calendar gives way to Q2 productivity on 6 August and July payrolls on 7 August, both at 08:30 ET.
The setup combines firm global equities, lower volatility, higher gold, and a high-growth AMD quarter. Verify the cash-session response, preserve provider-baseline differences, and treat guidance as a scenario rather than an outcome.
