Recovery note: this is the July 21, 2026 pre-market snapshot, published after the session because the 7:00 a.m. ET deadline was missed. The prices below are delayed Yahoo Finance prints from 9:14 a.m. ET; the live ticker strip now shows newer values. No July 21 overnight read was live at the quote cut, so this brief stays company-specific.

Beginner note

Pre-market trading happens before the main session and can be thin. Options do not trade then. A large gap is a signal to investigate, not a forecast of the 4:00 p.m. ET close.

3M: guidance rises with industrial demand

3M reported $6.5 billion of Q2 sales, up 2.4% year over year. Adjusted organic sales grew 5.4%, while adjusted earnings reached $2.40 a share, up 11%. The company lifted 2026 adjusted-EPS guidance to $8.80–$8.95 from $8.50–$8.70.

Why MMM moved

Reuters reported MMM up about 6% before the bell as cost control, pricing and the safety-and-industrial unit supported the guidance increase. Yahoo's delayed $169.00 print was 6.22% above $159.11; the former 52-week high of $177.41 was the next visible reference.

Wheel and risk check

The scheduled earnings event had passed, but opening option volatility and spreads still required a fresh 9:30 a.m. ET quote. The main business risk is whether pricing can keep offsetting input-cost inflation without hurting demand.

What the market watched: the 9:00 a.m. ET call, follow-through above the $159.11 prior close, and whether the move approached $177.41. In plain terms: the quarter improved the profit map, but the opening gap still needed regular-session confirmation.

General Motors: the adjusted outlook moves higher

GM posted $48.0 billion of Q2 revenue, $1.3 billion of net income attributable to stockholders and $3.9 billion of EBIT-adjusted. It raised 2026 EBIT-adjusted guidance to $14–$16 billion from $13.5–$15.5 billion and adjusted-EPS guidance to $12–$14 from $11.50–$13.50.

Why GM moved

CNBC linked the stronger adjusted outlook to consistent vehicle pricing, lower warranty costs and narrowing electric-vehicle losses. The delayed $77.59 print was 2.36% above $75.80; $87.62, the prior 52-week high, remained a distant resistance reference.

Wheel and risk check

Earnings had removed one binary event, not assignment risk. The mixed detail matters: adjusted forecasts rose, while the company's expected 2026 GAAP net-income range moved lower. Any option comparison needed live post-open implied volatility and spreads.

What the market watched: the 8:30 a.m. ET call, North American margins, warranty costs and consumer pricing. In plain terms: better adjusted cash and profit expectations supported the shares, but the GAAP-versus-adjusted bridge still deserved attention.

Danaher: a raised EPS range cannot hide the revenue reset

Danaher reported $6.3 billion of revenue, up 5.5%, and adjusted diluted earnings of $1.94 a share, up 8%. Core revenue grew 3.0%. The company raised full-year adjusted EPS guidance to $8.45–$8.60, yet kept core-growth guidance at only 3%–4% after cutting the previous upper end.

Why DHR moved

Reuters reported the shares down about 14% as weaker biotechnology revenue and shipment timing overshadowed the profit raise. Yahoo's 9:14 print was $170.74, down 15.10% from $201.11 and moving toward the prior 52-week low of $160.93.

Wheel and risk check

A double-digit earnings gap can produce fast implied-volatility changes and wide opening spreads. The core question is timing: Danaher said bioprocessing orders grew at a mid-teens rate, but delayed large shipments still weighed on reported revenue.

What the market watched: the 8:00 a.m. ET call, biotechnology shipment timing, respiratory-testing pressure and the $160.93 reference. In plain terms: stronger orders did not erase the near-term revenue disappointment.

MSCI: good growth, a more expensive plan

MSCI's Q2 operating revenue rose 12.2% to $867.0 million, and adjusted EPS climbed 18.5% to $4.94. Total operating expenses were $379.5 million, up 9.2%. The company raised its 2026 operating-expense forecast to $1.535–$1.575 billion from $1.490–$1.530 billion.

Why MSCI moved

Reuters framed the sell-off around that higher expense forecast. The delayed $558.46 print was 10.66% below $625.11; the prior 52-week low of $501.08 was the next broad downside reference.

Wheel and risk check

The revenue engine stayed healthy, but acquisition costs, incentive compensation and investment spending changed the margin debate. A post-earnings option quote had to be refreshed after the open; the pre-market stock gap was not an executable option price.

What the market watched: whether index-fee growth and a 95.3% retention rate could outweigh the higher cost plan. In plain terms: the quarter was profitable, but investors marked down the price they would pay for that growth.

Also on the radar

  • NVS, SCHW and NOC: Nasdaq scheduled all three to report before the July 21 open, but this recovered run did not freeze a complete official-release plus cross-checked pre-market quote bundle for them, so none was promoted to a feature.
  • Yahoo's trending, gainers, losers and most-active screeners returned HTTP 429 on the initial call and one retry. The successful Nasdaq mover feed and Google News sweep supplied candidate discovery instead.
  • StockTwits and Reddit returned HTTP 403. Google Trends was checked as a signal only; no social claim became a catalyst or entered the article.

What to watch on Tuesday, July 21, 2026

  • 8:00 a.m. ET: Danaher's call—bioprocessing shipments and the 3%–4% core-growth range.
  • 8:30 a.m. ET: GM's call—pricing, warranty costs, North American margins and EV losses.
  • 9:00 a.m. ET: 3M's call—guidance, industrial demand and input-cost pressure.
  • 9:30 a.m. ET: the opening auction and the first executable option quotes; MSCI's higher cost plan was the key non-industrial earnings debate.
