Morning movers: Bank of America faces a 10%-plus fee squeeze
Bank of America’s fee warning contrasts with Apple’s Siri test and Broadcom’s defence of AI demand. For option sellers, the distinction is weaker earnings expectations versus products and promises.

For the broader backdrop, see today’s Morning Read; this brief focuses on company news rather than the macro trade.
Bank of America’s fee warning is a direct challenge to earnings expectations. Apple’s Siri rollout and Broadcom’s defence of AI demand are different tests: whether products become revenue, and whether existing promises hold. The early moves in these three liquid stocks are modest, not a runaway rally. [1–8]
The early price picture
September 15, 2026 — delayed pre-market snapshot at 05:45 ET, America/Toronto. Pre-market means trading before the regular session, when fewer buyers and sellers can exaggerate moves. Prices are USD; changes compare with the September 14 close. Each last-trade time is shown below. These are observations, not executable prices. [9–14]
| Stock | Price / trade time ET | Change | Prior close | Catalyst |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $BAC | $58.89 / 05:43:46 | −0.98% | $59.47 | Fee outlook weakens |
| $AAPL | $330.81 / 05:44:13 | −0.68% | $333.08 | Siri AI beta begins |
| $AVGO | $344.30 / 05:44:59 | −0.12% | $344.72 | CEO reaffirms AI targets |
$BAC — the fee engine slows
At the September 14 Barclays conference, CEO Brian Moynihan said third-quarter investment-banking fees would likely decline more than 10% from a year earlier, with trading revenue roughly flat. This is management’s outlook, not a completed quarter or a forecast for all bank revenue. CNBC and Yahoo Finance describe the same deterioration in dealmaking income. [1–3]
Q2 2026 investment-banking fee growth, YoY
+50%
Q2 2026 trading-revenue growth, YoY
+33%
Those completed-quarter comparisons show why the change matters: fee growth had been strong. The investment-banking measure excludes the bank’s own securities offerings; trading growth was the same with or without valuation adjustments tied to its own credit risk. A slower fee engine makes expense growth harder to absorb. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley are useful competitive comparisons, but one bank’s mix is not the whole industry. [1–4]
The seller’s risk is earnings, not just the gap
A cash-secured put retains exposure to owning shares if profit expectations fall again. Cboe’s active contracts last traded September 14; their historical markets do not establish today’s opening premium or implied volatility—the uncertainty priced into options. [18]
At 09:30 ET, compare the prior close of $59.47 with the delayed $58.89 print at 05:43:46 ET. They are gap references, not established support or resistance. The key risk is that delayed deals become weaker activity rather than merely shifting between quarters. [1–2,9,15]
$AAPL — a beta is not yet a revenue cycle
Apple began rolling out Siri AI in English beta on September 14 alongside iOS 27. French and other announced languages are planned for October 2026. The operating question is whether a more useful assistant improves device appeal and daily engagement—not whether a launch announcement instantly raises earnings. This is a product milestone, not new financial guidance. [5–6]
Product enthusiasm can outrun adoption
For covered-call sellers, a rebound can cap participation while the shares still carry downside. September 14 option activity is historical, not an opening quote. The risk is uneven adoption or availability turning an impressive demonstration into slower commercial progress. [5–6,19]
The opening reference is $333.08 versus the delayed $330.81 trade at 05:44:13 ET. Apple’s ecosystem, rather than an isolated AI feature, is the competitive test against other mobile platforms. Today’s useful developments would concern availability and actual use; no specific intraday sales announcement is promised. [5–6,10]
$AVGO — reassurance, not a raised forecast
In a September 14 CNBC interview reported after the close, CEO Hock Tan said the debate over slower frontier-model development had not changed Broadcom’s long-term AI semiconductor targets. The timing matters: an evening reaffirmation cannot explain an earlier session’s decline. Tan emphasized inference, meaning the everyday use of trained AI models, while explicitly expressing uncertainty about training. [7]
A forecast is not a delivered order
Custom accelerators and networking chips connect Broadcom to customer buildout plans. Its filing identifies concentration and delayed or cancelled AI projects as risks. A short put keeps that demand exposure even when yesterday’s option trading was active; historical September 14 markets are not current premiums. [7–8,20]
At the open, $344.72 is the prior-close reference against the delayed $344.30 print at 05:44:59 ET. Nvidia is a useful read-through on AI hardware sentiment, not an identical business. The next meaningful change would be customer spending or orders—not simply another endorsement. [7–8,11]
Company news does not guarantee an early rally

What to watch today — September 15, ET
- 09:30 — regular-session opening auction: do the gaps persist as liquidity broadens? The prior closes are reference points, not price targets. [15]
- During the session — distinguish fee revisions, product availability and actual AI orders from commentary. These are unscheduled possibilities, not promised announcements.
