A broad rally lifted the major indexes
U.S. stocks finished Thursday, September 3, 2026 higher across the headline benchmarks. The S&P 500 gained 81.11 points, or 1.06%, to 7,747.71. The Nasdaq-100 added 339.02 points, or 1.16%, to 29,482.32, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose about 624 points, or 1.18%, to 53,686. The similar percentage gains across the Dow and Nasdaq-100 point to broad participation rather than a move confined to one benchmark.

Volatility and Treasury yields both eased
The Cboe VIX closed at 14.32, down 0.88 point, or 5.79%, from 15.20 on September 2. The U.S. Treasury’s daily par-yield curve placed the 2-year yield at 4.34%, down 5 basis points from 4.39%, and the 10-year yield at 4.77%, down 2 basis points from 4.79%. Stocks rose as both displayed yields and index volatility fell, although those closing observations alone do not prove that lower yields caused the equity move.

Wheel lens
The VIX is an S&P 500 volatility benchmark, not an executable option quote for HOOD or BE. An educational wheel review still needs the exact expiry and strike, bid and ask, open interest, event calendar, full cash or share obligation, and assignment tolerance.
Robinhood and Bloom Energy outpaced the rally
Two names on YieldCove’s current watchlist posted larger gains than the indexes. Robinhood Markets (HOOD) closed at $124.72, up $17.73, or 16.57%, from $106.99. Bloom Energy (BE) ended at $235.55, up $18.27, or 8.41%, from $217.28. Cboe’s delayed regular-session quotes and Nasdaq’s stock screener matched on both closes and dollar changes. These feeds establish the size of the moves; closing data alone do not establish a company-specific cause.
| Ticker | Close | Daily move |
|---|---|---|
| HOOD | $124.72 | +$17.73 / +16.57% |
| BE | $235.55 | +$18.27 / +8.41% |
A sharp one-day rally can change option moneyness and assignment exposure before the next opening bell. A covered-call strike can move closer to the stock price, increasing the chance that shares finish above the strike, while an existing cash-secured put may gain more distance from the market. Neither relationship reveals the next session’s executable premium because the opening stock price, contract spread, implied volatility, skew and liquidity can all change.
Option premiums are quoted per share, and one standard contract normally represents 100 shares. That makes the full cash-reserve or share-delivery obligation more important than the percentage move by itself. For readers tracking existing wheel positions, the verified September 3 close is a dated reference point—not an order instruction—and any contract should be rebuilt from a live broker quote when the market is open.
What the close establishes
The major indexes rose by more than 1%, the VIX and benchmark Treasury yields declined, and HOOD and BE outpaced the broad market. These are verified closing facts, not a forecast, a preferred strike or a personalized recommendation.

Relief spreads, but index options resist the all-clear
The rebound widened as volatility fell, yet index options remained more put-heavy than stock options. For premium sellers, calmer prices do not establish a one-way market.

Cheaper oil lifts futures, but Japan adds another rate hurdle
Falling oil and stronger equity futures extend the relief rally even as Japan tightens monetary policy. For premium sellers, calmer broad-market volatility must still be weighed against elevated bond yields and company-specific risks.

Equal-weight resilience challenges the tech-led retreat
Equal-weight stocks held up as technology shares fell and volatility rose. For option sellers, the split exposes concentration risk rather than a clear signal of panic or confidence.
